Portland, Maine area manufacturers 28 Jun 2012 20:02 #1

Hello and Thank You for this very interesting site.

My wife and I have a Stearns and Foster "latex" mattress we purchased in 2007 which is now so difficult to sleep on we need to replace it ASAP. We like the feel of some of the more plush mattresses we've seen in showrooms but the hard sales tactics and prices have me wary. Do you have any recommendations for a manufacturer within 100 miles of Portland, Maine? This would include southern to mid-coast Maine, Southern New Hampshire and down into metro Boston. Thank You for any additional information!
Pete

Hi 2CME911,

There are some high quality factory direct manufacturers or better retailers either in or very close to Portland. Some have been mentioned in several threads so I thought i would consolidate them here.

PORTLAND, ME area:

www.portlandmattressmakers.com/ or www.boatmattress.com/ Factory direct manufacturer in Portland, Windham, ME and Portsmouth, NH.

www.dalybros.com/ or www.maidenmaine.com/ Factory direct manufacturer in Biddeford, ME

bedderrest.com/ South Portland, Auburn, ME. Carries Pure Talalay Bliss and Gold Bond mattresses.

For those that are looking to try a Talalay Latex mattress then Pure Talalay Bliss also has a retail store finder on their site here .

Some of the threads that mention the two Maine manufacturers include ...

Have you heard of

guidance please (also includes information about Gardner in the Boston area)

and Post #8 here

BANGOR, ME area:

I have included the brands they carry (according to their sites) that I would consider on a "mattress by mattress" basis and as always make sure you can find out the details of what is inside any mattress you are considering.

thebedworksofmaine.com/Sleep_Shop/Mattresses.htm Brewer, ME. Savvy Rest, Glideaway (Sleep Harmony).

www.tuffybear.com/sleep-center.aspx Glenburn, ME. Symbol

www.brownapplianceandmattress.com/ Ellsworth, ME. Ergovea

www.richardparks.com/ Ellsworth, ME. Natura.

www.trentonflooringandfurniture.com/ Trenton, ME. Symbol with 5 lb memory foam

perrysfurniture.com/ Belfast, ME. Gold Bond, Pure Latex Bliss

www.davisbrosfurniture.com/ Guilford, ME. Symbol including gel and latex.

www.dorseyfurniture.com/mattresses/ Holden, ME Sherwood, King Koil

NEW HAMPSHIRE area:

Some of the better choices or at least "possibilities" in the NH area are in the Merrimack list in post #4 here and in the Portsmouth area list in post #2 here or the Topsham, VT list in post #4 here but there are not as many options as the ME or the MA choices that are available to you.

BOSTON area and south:

Some of the better choices in and around Boston and into southeast Massachusetts are in post #2 here (and there are some very good choices here).

Some of the posts and threads that mention the Boston manufacturers include ...

This topic

The "Protectors, Pads, and Toppers" thread

This thread and post #6 here .

SPRINGFIELD, MA area:

A few more good options in South/central MA are in post #4 here

Some comments about these are in the Need a Mattress in Amherst, MA thread

Hope this helps. You have some great choices in the general area :)
