Christeli vs Dreamfoam memory foam mattress 30 Apr 2013 18:59 #1

I have been looking and researching a new memory foam mattress for over 2 months now and want to share my findings.
I am no expert so take what you will from this and do your research!
I first used a lot of forums and the really great info on this website to get a starting point, then I started going to web sites and looking at the products and reading feedback.
I also visited stores and tried out their mattress then went back home and researched their brands and models.

I liked the Temperpedic Cloud Luxe but did not like the price. what I also found was that most of the different brands in the same comfort rating felt the same to me so I started reading and questioning this and learned about IDL, memory foam density and base foam density and that you can change the IDL with the chemicals used in making memory foam and that the higher the density has nothing to do with IDL or comfort level but a lot to do with durability and cost, so a 3# foam can be just as comfortable as a 5.3# foam at least for a while.
The cost difference between a 3.5# foam and a 5.3# foam is huge so those cheapo ones may feel ok but will not have durability.
The base foam also plays into it the same way and a 2.0 to 2.5 HD foam seems best.

I looked at Christeli out of South Carolina and like what I saw, They have quiet a few models in different configurations at various cost, They are not the cheapest out there but offer a unique product since the base foam and the memory foam are incased separate and you have 4 handles that fasten them to each other.
They also put a layer of foam of different levels on each side of the base foam with one being firm and the other soft so you can flip the bottom side and change the comfort level slightly.
From talking to the Service rep I found that the base is 2.0 density and the memory foam part ranges from 5.3# to 8# depending on the model and is all American made right there in their factory and the way they make it is that it is perforated so should sleep cool.
They also offer a return policy and a warranty and their feed back is very good.

I also looked at the Dreamfoam Ultimate Dreams 13" gel sold on Amazon and talked to their service rep about that mattress, feed back on that mattress is also very good and it is American made and uses 3" of 4# gel foam and 2" of 5.3 memory foam and the base is 1.5# HD foam but they have no return policy once you take it out of the box I am not sure about their warranty if any.
I was also concerned with the gel foam as I have read that the gel can break down in that type of foam.
Their customer service seems good but they only offer the one model so you can't shop comfort levels. they do compare it to the Cloud Luxe and reviews mostly agree with that just a little firmer.

I had decided on the Dreamfoam due to its lower price but during the 2 months of my researching and building the queen size base the price increased by $100.00 so that put it close to the Christeli.
In fairness I found out that the memory foam chemicals have increased in price so that may have driven the increases while Luxe-pedic absorbed the cost but not sure for how long.

Long story short I have bought the Chrsiteli Tiffany after talking to them for about 30 minutes while they answered all of my technical questions with a lot of patience and I am now waiting on its arrival. Their customer service is also very good.

I hope this helps someone and I will post a review on my new mattress after I have had it for a while.
You can find the Christeli at wwwchristeli.com/mattresses and the Dreamfoam on Amazon.

Hi triton0226,

Thanks for taking the time to write such a detailed review.

Park Place is certainly doing a good job with their Luxepedic brand (soon to change its name apparently). NOTE: now changed to Christeli)

You did some great research, learned a lot along the way, narrowed down your options to choices between good and good ... and in the end made a good quality/value choice that was the best match for your criteria and your personal value equation.

That sounds like a successful mattress purchase to me!

Congratulations on your new mattress ... and I'm looking forward to your feedback when you've had the chance to sleep on it. :)

triton0226, thank you for the comparison review ... I've been looking at the Dream foam on Amazon, while trying to soak up all the amazing info here. I do want to ask you about the link that you cite above to the Luxe-Pedic -- it now goes to Christeli, and has no mattresses branded "Wellington." Is this the same company? If so, what is the comparable mattress?

Thank you!

Hi! Thankyou for the review! I went there as well and it took me to Christeli. One interesting bullet on their site is "Long lasting: feels the same after 20 years like it did the first night". This is something Id love to know if you experience with the product you purchase!!

Hi, they recently changed the name to Christeli apparently due to some pressure from like sounding competitors but the warranty's and everything stays the same the new name for the Wellington is Tiffany.
I have been sleeping on this mattress for about a month now and find it very comfortable, it has not cured my insomnia but no mattress can do that but once I fall asleep I do sleep sounder and longer.
Some of the things that stand out for me is that the edge on the bottom or support section of the mattress has a wrap around it that helps support the edge so when you lay on the edge it does not fold down like some memory foam mattress do.
Also the memory foam molds to your pressure points but you do not sink in where you cant roll over or move around. I do have a protector on it and that may be making it a little firmer.
Overall I have found it to be a good high quality product and is holding up well so far and I weigh 225" and am 5'11" tall.
I guess a good question is would I buy this mattress again knowing what I know and the answer is yes I would.
If anyone has questions I would be happy to share what I have learned including the research I did.

Hi triton0226,

Thanks for the update on your mattress and your ongoing feedback ... I appreciate it :)

I also noticed that they had changed their name for the reasons you mentioned (and they were asking for feedback before about name suggestions) but the old site forwards to the new one so the transition is seamless.

They are certainly a good quality/value memory foam option and once I have a chance to talk with them again I will likely add them to the list of the better memory foam options in post #12 here .

Luxe-Pedic vs Dreamfoam memory foam mattress 30 May 2013 06:28 #7

triton0226, thanks again for the update and explanation! Very helpful. I have a call in to Christeli to ask them about the firmness of their various models (I took Phoenix's good advice and stopped by a mattress store to try the Tempurpedic Cloud Luxe last night, and it's definitely too soft for my tastes).

I also heard back from Chuck at Brooklyn Bedding in response to a question I'd sent him about the Dreamfoam, and now I'm considering a latex mattress. Which made me wonder, Phoenix -- what kind of mattress do you sleep on? I know it's a matter of personal preference, body style, etc. (and I have read through your guidelines), but I am interested in your personal take on the whole memory foam vs. latex debate. (If you're willing to give it! :-)

I don't mind at all and it's been asked fairly frequently.

You can see the description and a picture here .

Nice! Thanks for sharing. I do think I'm going with the latex mattress from BB ... uniformly great reviews on Amazon, plus the ability to change things out if I get the firmness wrong (and the info I've gotten here!) have convinced me. Thanks again for your help, and for this site.

triton0226,
Would you mind telling me what you think about the Tiffany by Christeli since it sounds like you've completed your 30 day trial at this point? I'm seriously considering a Christeli, but would love an experienced review. Thanks!
