Build/select your own mattress comfort? 10 Oct 2013 17:52 #1

I have been studying all the various mattress specs and compared them to what I find comfortable. I thought some innovative manufacturer may have already come up with/and have been told by at least one mattress salesman that they will soon be offering a mattress with multiple layers that the end consumer may rearrange to suit their preferences, anybody know of any brands that may already be available? I'm thinking a 2" 5lb - 7lb layer, 2" of 4 or 5lb layer, maybe a 1" latex layer and an additional plush pad layer that can be placed on the bottom if not desired or under the cover on top if a pillow top is desired?

Benefits being you can re-arrange the layers at will or even replace them if they break down.

Hi grimmrig,

There are many manufacturers that make versions of layered component mattresses just like you are suggesting.

They are more common with latex but there are also a few with memory foam as well.

Post #1 here has all the basic information, steps, and guidelines you will need to make good choices and also includes links to some of the latex and memory foam sources that make mattresses along the lines you are suggesting. Many of them also allow their customers to swap out layers for different firmness levels if re-arranging layers doesn't provide enough fine tuning after a purchase.
