Brooklyn 10" Camilla or Ultimate Dreams? 23 Oct 2013 12:40 #1

Been rifling through the forums here and have found it immensely helpful.

I'm looking for a serviceable mattress to tide me over for a bit. Right now, I've got a 10-year-old Simmons Beautyrest that was too soft when I got it, and now it's both too soft AND too saggy. I have some minor back issues and am looking for a firmer mattress. I've generally settled on one of the Brooklyn-manufactured latex-over-foam mattresses and can't decide between their Amazon-marketed Ultimate Dreams mattress (I'd probably opt for a 5 firmness, as I am a side sleeper) and the Brooklyn Bedding 10" Camilla Cotton (only available in 3 or 6 firmness level, probably go for the 6).

Are there any real construction or material differences between the two, other than the zippered cotton top of the Brooklyn-direct version? Additionally, is there any disadvantage to using a mattress protector like this: www.amazon.com/Malouf-Hypoallergenic-Waterproof-Mattress-Protector/dp/B0035E63WM/ref=pd_bxgy_hg_text_y

Thanks for your help.

In my opinion these two are nearly the same.
Camilla has cotton cover and a half inch more Poly-foam base while Ultimate dreams has Bamboo and a half inch more reflex foam (For $200 Less).
If your choice is based on flexibility I think the Cotton Camilla has 120 day comfort layer exchange - not sure about details for the Ultimate Dreams.
As always you should be familiar with Latex before ordering to be sure you like it but if you already know you do...you cannot make a bad decision here. Call the manufacturer and discuss the exact details with them before pulling the trigger.
Sleep well,

Hi dinglehoser,

I would echo jefmoody's comments and they are very similar in terms of materials they use.

As jeffmoody also mentioned the biggest difference between them is that the Ultimate Dreams doesn't have a top latex layer that can be exchanged for a different firmness level after your purchase (aklthough you can choose the comfort level before your purchase) while the Cotton Camilla has the option to exchange the comfort layer after a purchase if you need it so it's a little less "risky".

The replaceable layer also allows you to replace the top layer if necessary or to make comfort changes down the road if your needs or preferences change without replacing the whole mattress.
