BedInABox: Gel vs Beaded Gel 21 Apr 2014 06:22 #1

Greetings,

I was attempting to order a BedInABox Silk Elegance king sized mattress. At checkout, it offererd me a free option of changing to Coolrest Beaded Gel. Free options sound great in theory, until you ask yourself why they are free. The website provided virtually no information on what the difference is between the regular product (Gel) and this Beaded Gel thing. I was under the impression that all gel was beaded gel, so that is a bit confusing. I don't think bedinabox has done themselves any favors, from a marketing standpoint, by telling you on the checkout page that you can switch to a different product for free, without telling you about that other product - it makes the whole situation seem more complex and confusing. But anyway, the real question is if anyone has bought one or the other or has direct knowledge of the differences between the two. Thanks!

Hi lgfrie,

I don't have any personal experience with their mattress (you can see my thoughts about them in post #2 here ) but there is more information in post #2 here about the different types of gel memory foam. They should be able to tell you the functional difference between the two options they have if you call them.

Hi Phoenix, tnx for the reply. I actually made a last minute decision to order the Brooklyn Aloe Alexis instead, and put in the order today, so I no longer need the info about the gel beads. I decided on the Aloe after reading a lot of stuff on this forum about it, so that was super-helpful. Good work here. tnx.

I am a big fan of that bed...I have two of them.
What firmness did you choose? Did you also swap to memory foam on one layer or both Latex?

Hi lgfrie,

You certainly made a great choice ... and congratulations on your new mattress :)

I'm looking forward to your feedback once you receive it and have had the chance to sleep on it.

BedInABox: Gel vs Beaded Gel 22 Apr 2014 20:46 #6

tnx Phoenix, I will definitely post a review once I've had a chance to sleep on it for a while :)

I got a firmness level 5 (28/32). I wanted the 6 but was talked out of it. I like a softer mattress, but am a hefty guy and the sales adviser made the point that a 5 to me would be more or less the equivalent of a 6 to a lighter dude.

I didn't think or ask about swapping out a latex layer for a memory foam. If I'd known that was possible, I might have inquired about it. I think I'll run with the double latex for a while, and maybe switch out a layer down the road. This is my first foray out of coil, so it's all kind of a big adventure at this stage.

Really psyched about this purchase - can't wait to get it, and review it here

This is very true and the bigger the weight differential the more of a difference it would make. Firmer materials tend to feel softer to heavier body types because you will sink into them more and firmness is always relative to each person's body type, sleeping positions, and individual sensitivities and preferences.

I'm looking forward to your feedback and as you know ... one of the advantages of this design is that you have many options available both before and after a purchase.
