Brooklyn Bedding vs. Flobeds 30 Aug 2014 18:45 #1

We have done a lot of research (many thanks to this website and forum), and we have narrowed down our mattress purchase to a latex bed. Flobeds has great customization - a couple base layers and a top layer that is customized with six different segments based on your profile. Brooklyn beds customizes the top layer as well, but it's a consistent layer along the length of the bed.

I don't see a negative going with either company, except for the cost for Flobed (about $1,700 difference). Is the additional customization worth the additional cost?

Hi aknodolf,

There is more about the most important parts of the value of a mattress purchase in post #13 here which may help you decide which one is the best value for you or whether any additional cost would be worth it.

Flobeds has two versions of their vZone mattress and both of them use 11" of latex vs the 9" in both of the Brooklyn Bedding all latex mattresses. The Original Talalay latex vZone uses blended Talalay and sells for $2599 (queen) and in terms of materials would be more closely comparable to the Brooklyn Bedding Total Latex Mattress which also uses blended Talalay latex and sells for $1899 (queen). The covers are also different and Flobeds uses an organic wool quilted/cotton cover and Brooklyn Bedding uses a bamboo/cotton blend quilted with wool and polyfoam.

The Flobeds Organic Natural Talalay vZone uses 100% natural Talalay and sells for $2899 (queen) and would be closer in terms of materials to the Brooklyn Bedding Essence which uses 100% natural Dunlop in the core and 100% natural Talalay in the comfort layer and sells for $2349 (queen). Brooklyn Bedding also has the option for 100% natural Talalay in the support core but there would be an increase in the price. Both of these use organic covers quilted with wool.

Flobeds has a convoluted 2" latex layer on top of all their mattresses (which brings the thickness up to 11" of latex) and they have more options available to customize the layers before a purchase and the layers (or zones) can also be rearranged or exchanged after a purchase as well. There is also more about their zoning system in post #4 here .

Brooklyn Bedding has several firmness options for their 6" cores and their 3" comfort layer before a purchase but only the top 3" comfort layer can be exchanged after a purchase.

There are also some differences in their exchange and return policies.

The difference in price isn't as much as you mentioned but the Flobeds has a little more latex, has many more options to customize the mattress before and after a purchase but has a higher cost.

The Brooklyn Bedding mattresses have less options to customize the mattress but also have a lower cost.

Both of them would make great choices and when you are down to finalists that are a choice between "good and good" and there are no clear winners between them then which of your final choices (see post #2 here ) would be the "best value" for you would depend on all the objective, subjective, and intangible parts of your personal value equation that are most important to you and that would be unique to each person.

You are in a position where none of your finalists would be a mistake IMO and both of them would be a great quality/value choices.
