Cozy Pure - their foundation, does it meet the 3" criteria? 03 Sep 2014 08:39 #1

...the Cozy Pure foundation measures [per Cheryl] 50" X 79"...it has, according to the website, 12 slats...if evenly spaced that would be about 5 - 6" apart.

Looking at the picture on the website it appears the slats in the middle of the foundation are much closer together than those on either end. Again, assuming the middle items are within the 3" standard would it make any difference that the end items are twice that, more or less?

...is Cozy Pure's foundation a different configuration, outside the 3" standard, that's equally satisfactory for latex support?

...any thoughts or comments would be appreciated.

Hi fredss,

They have a great deal of experience with their mattresses and foundations and I would be comfortable with using the foundation that they suggest for their mattress yes.

Cozy Pure - their foundation, does it meet the 3" criteria? 05 Sep 2014 19:40 #3

I have their mattress and foundation now for nearly 2 years. The foundation is solid, and it doesn't creak at all. I will have to look under the bed/mattress and count the number of slats. However, the support of the mattress (king size weighs about 140-150 lbs) is outstanding. The foundations is covered in a quality fabric. Will get back to you. By the way, after 2 years (rotated the mattress once since it is so heavy), there is no sagging at all. The lanoodle topper also is holding up well.

Thanks much, TDI Hoo...valuable information...genuinely appreciated. Look forward to hearing the details of the slat layout...the photo on the web may not tell the whole story.

Warm regards...

Here is a photo. The fabric says "Organic Cotton" in case you forgot. The foundation is finished on the top with the same fabric. The top surface is totally solid. I do not know if there is fiberboard between slats, a whole bunch of slats together, or something else. I just cannot see under the cover fabric. And the bottom is finished as well, so I cannot see the inside. I tried to shine a flashlight through the underside, but still I cannot see.

My guess is that there are slats covered by a solid piece of fiberboard or the like. I cannot feel any slats. It is a SOLID foundation with a continuous, non-slatted surface.

...interesting! The picture on the website, as I mentioned, showed a dozen slats, closer together in the middle, much further apart on the ends.

Perhaps they're using a different design now...the website photo is passé.

...genuinely appreciate your taking the time to investigate these details. Valuable information for my research into the complex subject of latex mattresses! :-)

Hi TDIHoo and fredss,

I'm not sure of the specifics of their foundation but they would probably be able to tell you if you call and ask (and I'm also curious so I'll ask them when I talk with them next if you haven't already).

Based on the picture ... the foundation on their site would work well because the heaviest part of the body would be over the part of the foundation that has the narrowest gaps and would be the strongest but based on TDI Hoo's comments this may not be the foundation they are currently using. For the sake of reference I'll post here if I find out the specifics unless you talk to them before I do and post the information before me :)

Cozy Pure - their foundation, does it meet the 3" criteria? 09 Sep 2014 12:15 #8

Hi TDIHoo and fredss,

I just talked to Hans and he provided me with the details of their current foundation which has recently been updated.

Their previous foundation used the design in the picture with smaller gaps in the center and then used cardboard on top to even out the support and had a quilted cover for breathability.

Their current foundation uses 18 slats and they have removed the cardboard which isn't needed with the higher number of slats. All of the slats are 3" or less apart but the center slats are also closer together and have a smaller gap. They also use their body zone quilted cover on the foundation.

Hi fredss,

Perhaps they'll consider updating the information on their website.

Hans told me the change is fairly recent and it looks like the description has already been changed to mention 18 slats but he also said that they need to update the picture.
