Best places to get odd sized sheet sets like Full XL? 14 Oct 2014 06:06 #1

Where do you like to get your sheet sets from?

Was looking at getting a Full XL mattress, but finding sheets is a pain.

Was looking at Full XL sheet sets in something like 50/50 poly/cotton or 100% poly, and around a 12" deep pocket. As my mattress I'm looking at is 12" deep.

Big problem is most of the Full XL 50/50 sheet sets that you can find have an ultra deep pocket like 18"+. I got tired of deep pocket sheets on shallow mattresses. So planned on getting a set right at or within 2 inches of my mattress thickness, which is 12".

I have found a couple of places that have the specs I'm looking at, but those sets are like $100+ for 200TC 50/50. Then there are those places that are custom sized, but those are expensive.

Kind of started thinking of just looking at a Queen mattress instead. Though would have to get a new bed frame/headboard.

Hi jasonsmith,

I don't know the "best" place because sheets and bedding isn't my area of expertise (and hopefully some of the other members will see your post and chime in as well) but I did do a google search on " full XL sheets " and there were quite a number of Full XL results that showed up including some that were about a 50/50 blend of cotton poly in shallower pocket depths (I would avoid 100% polyester sheets).

Some of the stores that showed up on my search that seem to have them include ...

Post #7 here and the other posts and topics and websites it links to also has more information about different fabrics and sheets that may be helpful.

I looked through those links you posted and didn't see any sheet sets that matches what I was looking for. I thought it was tough just finding shallow pocket Full sheet set that wasn't 100% cotton let alone in size Full XL.

Here's a custom sheet place but they are expensive for 200TC and don't know their quality:

www.cozytownlinens.com/200tc-5050-sheet-sets-p-198.html

Here is a set for $50, but is 200TC. So unless it has better stitching and thicker sheets, probably the same thing as the $10 sheets at the store:

www.customlinensdirect.com/sheets/sheet-sets/sheet-sets-200-tc-cotton/xl-full-sheets

I'll probably think about going Queen. But if I do that, then I'll have to search frames and headboard.

So just to be clear ... are you looking for a Full XL sheet set under $100 and with a pocket depth up to 15" (to fit your 12" mattress). Are you also looking to avoid 100% cotton and only considering a blend or 100% polyester for some reason?

Full XL sheet set in 50/50 or 100% poly with shallow pocket. Mattress will be 12" deep so something close to that depth. Was thinking 12"-14" deep. Though those custom places let you pick the exact depth. Right now my mattress is 10" deep with 17" deep sheets and I don't like the loose fitted sheet, plus one corner always ends up popping loose.

Yes under $100. I had bought Full Sheet set for like $20, but don't think I'll be able to do that for Full XL. Problem with those $100 sheets I mentioned is I'm thinking their quality isn't worth the $100 as they are just 200TC unless they are doing high quality stitching and using thick material compared to the thin stuff at the store.

And yes I prefer a poly/cotton blend, but if not that then would pick 100% poly.

I'm avoiding 100% cotton because I've never liked that for sheets. I've tried them twice and threw them away. They come out a wrinkly mess and I don't care to iron them. So I stick with poly/cotton blend sheets.

Hi jasonsmith,

OK ... I was assuming that 100% cotton would be your preference over a blend or 100% synthetic (most people try and avoid polyester as much as possible) so that makes the options a little more difficult.

If I come across anything that fits your criteria I'll post it here and hopefully other forum members will see this and have some suggestions as well.

The cheapest I've seen is that one for $50, but don't know the quality. I'm thinking my best bet is places that let you custom order different sizes. Just don't know their quality or ones that are good. I figure If I'm going to pay triple the price, then they need to be higher quality than the cheapo sheets at the store.

When getting custom sized sheets, do you match the pocket depth with the mattress thickness? i.e. 12" mattress you get sheets that are a 12" deep pocket?

Or are you supposed to go up a certain number of inches over your mattress thickness?

Hi jasonsmith,

It will vary to some degree depending on the sheet and how much it stretches but it's normally a good idea to have a pocket depth that is about 2" or more deeper than the mattress so that there is room for it to tuck under the mattress without coming loose.

I've been thinking of looking for a Full XL platform frame. As long as it is tall enough to the height it would be if I had used a box spring on my current metal frame. Just looking. But figured the cost of the platform may be similar as you would save on having to buy a box spring and expensive dust mite cover.

I'm looking at the Dutch Craft flippable mattresses.
