Brooklyn Bedding Aloe Alexis/Novaform Serafina 06 Dec 2014 10:47 #1

Just wanted to provide some insight into my personal experience for those still in the hunt for a mattress. Keep in mind this as well as most other reviews are subjective.

About 2 months ago I started my research towards finding a new mattress. I started out in well known mattress stores and laid on many different mattresses. While there were definitely comfortable ones, I can't tell you how many times I came across mixed reviews for every bed that I was interested in. Considering this, and the fact that the return policy from most of these big name stores is nowhere near as good as they make it seem, I decided to take a risk and purchase a Serafina from Costco for two reasons: 1) It had a lot of good reviews on the Costco website (which all seem to have disappeared) and was rated highly by Consumer Reports and 2) Costco's awesome return policy.

I received the mattress and felt initially that it was very firm although it softened up a little over the course of a few weeks and I got used to it. Still, I have to say I was kind of disappointed with the quality of the mattress. The top part of the cover seemed to be too tight around the perimeter and was almost pulling in each corner making them uneven. Also, being that the memory foam layer is only 3lb density, I became nervous that it might not last that long so I decided to return the mattress.

Nonetheless, I started to realize that I don't like memory foam as much as I thought I would for the following reasons:
(In all fairness, these are qualities of most memory foams not just Sleep Innovations/Novaform)
- Slow recovery
- Firmer in cold, softer in warm
- Feels like your climbing out of a small crater when you move

With this information in mind I guided my search towards latex mattresses, as they resolve the above complaints, yet still offer a foam like feel. After spending a lot of time researching on mattress underground and with the help of Phoenix's insight in other posts I settled on Brooklyn Bedding's Aloe Alexis in a queen.

Mario the sales rep from Brooklyn Bedding was VERY helpful in answering all of my questions and in helping me choose a level of firmness. I went with a level 8 (19ild over 24ild) which so far has been great for me. It offers a plush/cloud-like feel on top without feeling like I'm really sinking into the mattress (I'm 5'6" and 145lbs), and is easy to move on. The mattress cover is very soft and feels very high quality as well.

Although I've only had it for a week, it really does feel like the perfect combination of comfort and support. I do have to say that I think BB did a great job in designing this mattress so that if you don't like the comfort, you can exchange a layer (not the whole mattress which can be costly to the consumer, the manufacturer and the environment).

All in all, Brooklyn Bedding/Aloe Alexis:
- Is one of the most comfortable mattresses I've ever slept on...honestly speaking
- Offers many options for comfort and customization
- Will likely be very durable based on the quality and type of materials
- Has many of the benefits of a memory foam without many of the drawbacks
- Is offered at a pretty reasonable price

Additionally, the latex pillows that were offered as a promotion are probably the best/most comfortable pillows I've ever slept on as well. They're literally the perfect pillow- you can mold them however you want and are really soft. My only complaint is that they had a strong latex smell, so needed to be aired out for a while before using.

I have to say this website and the body of knowledge within has been extremely useful in helping me spend my money wisely. The time spent on the research is proving to be well worth it.
