Brooklyn Bedding - Any feedback regarding your experience is welcome 14 May 2015 18:15 #1

After researching this "forever", I am considering buying the 10" Essence (all natural latex) from Brooklyn Bedding.
1. They seem to have a good return and exchange policy.
2. The latex foam is made (poured) in the USA by Latex International. Supposedly this reduces the odor? True?
3. Their pricing seems higher than several other sites, at least for the 10" all natural latex.

Any experiences, positive or negative, would be helpful. Thanks!

Hi cpcm,

After researching this "forever", I am considering buying the 10" Essence (all natural latex) from Brooklyn Bedding.

The Brooklyn Bedding Essence certainly uses high quality materials (100% natural Dunlop, 100% natural Talalay, and an organic cotton cover quilted with wool) and there are no lower quality materials or weak links in the design.

1. They seem to have a good return and exchange policy.

Yes ... the details of their return policy are here and a good return policy can certainly lower or limit the risk of an online purchase.

2. The latex foam is made (poured) in the USA by Latex International. Supposedly this reduces the odor? True?

The Essence uses 3" of 100% natural Talalay on top of 6" of 100% natural Dunlop. There is more about the odor of latex in post #2 here but I don't know of any real difference between the odor of Talalay latex from Talalay Global (Latex International) and Radium which is the only other producer of Talalay latex or any differences between their 100% natural Dunlop and the other manufacturers of 100% Natural Dunlop.

3. Their pricing seems higher than several other sites, at least for the 10" all natural latex.

I'm not sure who you were comparing it to but it would be higher than some and lower than others. There is more about the most important parts of the "value" of a mattress purchase in post #13 here though that can help you make more meaningful value comparisons between the Essence and any of the other finalists you are considering based on all the criteria that are most important to you (including the price of course).

Any experiences, positive or negative, would be helpful. Thanks!

I would keep in mind to be cautious about using other people's experiences on a mattress (either positive or negative) as a reliable source of information or guidance about how suitable a mattress may be for you and in many cases they can be more misleading than helpful because a mattress that may be a perfect choice for one person in terms of PPP (Posture and alignment, Pressure relief, and Personal preferences) may be completely unsuitable for someone else with a different body type, sleeping position, or preferences and sensitivities to sleep on (see post #13 here ).

Having said that ... hopefully some of the forum members that have purchased the Essence will see your post and share their comments but in the meantime a forum search on Brooklyn Bedding Essence (you can just click the link) will bring up all the forum posts that mention it.

As you probably know Brooklyn Bedding is one of the members here which means that I think very highly of them and they compete well with the best in the industry in terms of their quality, value, service, and transparency. A forum search on just Brooklyn Bedding will also bring up many hundreds of posts that mention them which include many comments and much more feedback from the members here that have dealt with them over the years.

Hi Phoenix,

Thanks once again for your reply. To clarify, I was not asking for feedback about the "Essence" at Brooklyn Bedding. I do understand this is personal preference.

I am asking if anyone has positive or negative experiences with BROOKLYN BEDDING - the company. This might include delivery, customer service, returns, etc.

The "odor" link is missing in your previous response.

The 10" natural latex at flexus.com for king is $1795 and what appears to be the same/similar bed at Brooklyn Bedding is $2449 (10" natural latex). This is the price differential I was asking about. Any known reasons for the difference?

BTW, BB has completely renovated their website.

Thanks again. Much appreciated

Check out Arizona Premium Mattress Company as another option. They have 10" all latex, with premium materials in the quilt.
I thought BB was more expensive when I looked, so I just went to check out what you are looking for. Seems like they only sell one type of mattress now, and its not all latex?

Sure looks like it.. I guess they've got a new business plan. :P

On a more serious note, I do hope Dreamfoam (their sister company) doesn't pull a similar stunt -- I'm considering buying a mattress from them!

There is more about the many factors that can be involved in how any manufacturer prices their mattresses in post #14 here but of course much of this is proprietary so from a consumer perspective it's really a matter of knowing how to make meaningful comparisons between mattresses based on all the criteria that are most important to you (one of which is price of course).

BTW, BB has completely renovated their website.

Yes ... they have been working on some changes and a new mattress for quite some time along with the launch of their new factory and they are using their Brooklyn Bedding site to introduce a new mattress that is competing with some of the other "universal comfort" mattresses (such as Tuft & Needle, Casper, Leesa etc).

The other Brooklyn Bedding mattresses are still available with the same return/exchange policies and warranty and will eventually be listed elsewhere but you would need to call them directly to order them for the time being.

Thanks for your input ejcrossl and ddrm870. I called BB and they did say that I could order from the "old" website by phone. Since I had printed pages from the website I know all the stats for the "Essence" all natural dunlop/latex 10" model. They did mention something about dreamfoam in the conversation, but I was not familiar with it. I think they might have said they were combining websites? Really not sure. However, I was assured that all the return/exchange policies were the same as before.
I will check out Arizona Premium Mattress Co also. Thanks for the recommendation.

They have no plans to remove the Dreamfoam mattresses although over the course of time they will probably expand the Dreamfoam website.

I have no reviews, negative or positive but I am happy I waited to order my new mattress until the bed slats were modified. Now I have a new option thanks to BB.

BB seems to be out to change the one comfort fits all models like Casper and T&N by offering one mattress with a choice of three comfort levels. And at an affordable price. IMO, that's more practical than a one comfort for many. I find it hard to believe that 90% sleep comfortably and correctly on a "like" mattress.

Any feedback regarding the poly foam. Origin or reliability?

I would agree with you on all counts here. They are the first actual manufacturer with their own factory to come out with an "online universal comfort" mattress and I agree with you that with 3 different firmness options means they would be able to cover a much wider range of consumer needs and preferences than a single firmness choice.

They are also using 4" of premium materials in their comfort layers (2" of blended Talalay latex and 2" of continuous pour synthetic Dunlop latex).

Their polyfoam is US made, CertiPUR US certified, and 2.0 lb density which means that it would be a suitable choice for any weight range in terms of durability and there are no lower quality materials or weak links in the mattress.

They have certainly done a great job with their pricing as well considering the quality of the materials and the 120 day free return policy.
