Convoluted polyfoam base in Brooklyn Bedding's #BestMattressEver 03 Jun 2015 13:22 #1

Glad to see this video from Brooklyn Bedding showing the construction of the #BestMattressEver:

I've only been researching mattresses for a few days, but I'm somewhat surprised to see convoluted foam used as a base layer on this product. Most base layers seem to be solid foam. Is this typical? Pros/cons of convoluted foam form in base layer? Seems like you'd sink half the convolute height before the the 2 lb density foam kicks in. Looking at medium firmness level, this has me wondering.

Hi RobT,

It's not typical or atypical and it's just part of the design choices that contribute to the overall feel and performance of a mattress. Tempurpedic for example (as well as many other manufacturers) also use convoluted foam in their base layers as a way to improve ventilation and change the "feel" of the mattress.

You can read a little more about convoluted layers in post #2 here .

Interestingly enough they even have their own convoluting machine in their factory which is rather unusual ... even for a manufacturer.
