Buying an Innerspring Mattress Online? 09 May 2016 08:31 #1

I'm doing some research on innerspring mattresses right now. Had a few questions that I was hoping some people here might be able to answer.

(1) Is shipping innerspring mattresses more difficult than shipping latex and memory foam mattresses? Can innersprings be compressed with no damage?

(2) What are some of the most popular online options for buying innerspring mattresses?

(3) What are some of the highest quality online options for buying innerspring mattresses?

I'm more familiar with online latex and memory foams mattress options, so just curious to know how the online market differs for innerspring mattresses.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Diderot,

It would really depend on the type of innerspring and on the specific design of the mattress. Some pocket coil mattresses can be safely compressed for shipping but most linked coil mattresses or innersprings with a border rod can't be compressed and need to be shipped with a common carrier instead of a courier which would be more costly.

I don't keep a record of the individual mattresses or their specs that the retailers and manufacturers in the hundreds of forum lists throughout the forum carry on their floor or have available online (it would be a bigger job than anyone could keep up with in a constantly changing market) but checking their websites and making some preliminary phone calls to the retailers/manufacturers that are on the local or online lists is always a good idea before you decide on which retailers or manufacturers you wish to deal with anyway. This will tell you which of them carry mattresses that would meet your specific criteria, are transparent about the materials in their mattresses, and that carry the type of mattresses that you are interested in that are also in the budget range you are comfortable with. Once you have checked their websites and/or talked with the ones that interest you then you will be in a much better position to decide on the ones that you are most interested in considering or visiting based on the results of your preliminary research and conversations.

Having said that ... some of the better innerspring/latex options I'm aware of are listed in post #2 here and some of the better innerspring/natural fiber mattresses I'm aware of are listed in post #4 here . Some of them are available online (you can check their websites or call them to check) and if you wish to test any of them in person rather than ordering online you can either check their online retail store locator (if they have one) or call to find out if they have any retail stores in your area.

Good quality innerspring mattresses are much less widely available online than they are locally.
