2920 mattress 09 Oct 2017 13:43 #1

Did a search and came up empty, sorry if I missed it.
This is another new company. I contacted them Sunday asking about the densities and got a response also adding the ild of the foams. I sent some more questions today and got very detailed and thorough answers. Very inpressive on that end. This shows the layers 2920sleep.com/about-us/design/ and here are the specs of the mattress.

The cover is made from a high-end Belgian fabric blend (polyester, viscose, lycra). It also has an adaptive treatment to help evaporation and temperature control (similar to athletic gear).
1) Pressure Relief Layer: 2.5 (density lbs. per cubic foot) 15 ILD
2) Support Layer: 3.75 (density) 23 ILD (firmness)
3) Core Support Layer: 1.8 (density) 32 ILD (firmness)
4) Base Support Layer: 1.8 (density) 55 ILD (firmness)

Even though it is a new startup company, the warranty is through a 3rd generation manufacturer who has been around for 80 years.

Hi Napper,

The 2920 Sleep mattress is another of the newer boxed-bed mattresses available. It is a dba of Art of Sleep, LLC. There is little meaningful information about their product on their web site, so it’s good that you were able to procure those specifications of their mattress.

The top 2” 2.5 lb layer is one of the newer generation of high performance polyfoams that are becoming more popular. The second 1” 3.75 lb layer is either a memory foam or a polyfoam – they aren’t clear on their web site. The polyfoam core is 5.5” at 1.8 lb, and beneath that is 1.5” of 1.8 lb polyfoam that at the 55 ILD helps create a firmer base. Their foams are listed as CertiPUR-US certified. The source of their foams isn’t listed. There’s a bit of hyperbole regarding pricing comparison claims, IMHO, that is quite common from many boxed-bed companies.

Regarding your comments upon warranty, warranties in general are not nearly as important to me as knowing the materials because the reason most people need to replace a mattress is not a manufacturing defect but the loss of comfort and/or support which is not covered by a warranty. Knowing the materials in a mattress will tell you how long the original qualities of a mattress will last relative to other types of materials.

Hi Phoenix,
I am curious if you think those specs would be durable enough for someone with a higher bmi?
thanks!

Hi Ari,

I don’t have enough information about the 2920 mattress regarding all of the foam layers and the source of their foams to render any sort of educated analysis, so I always advise caution in situations such as that.

Hi Ari,

170+ boxed-bed companies out there and growing, with many quite secretive about their product sourcing and ownership. I'm hoping more will follow the lead of the site members here and be more transparent about their materials, as I believe consumers appreciate that.

Here is a response I got from them.

We are a US-based (and registered) company, with our staff mostly based in California.

Yes, the second layer is poly and we source from a very reputable domestic company called Carpenter.

I am also one of the partners in the business – I would love to talk with you to get your feedback on our website, information, and what we can do to take better care of “highly informed” customers such as yourself :-)

He gave me his phone number. Very open and responsive.
