Brentwood Home Cedar latex hybrid causing back pain?

18 Aug 2019 12:14 #11 by Sensei
Hey Classified,

Welcome to the mattress forum :).

Thanks for the post, and sorry for the delay in getting back to you. Your post highlights a really great point about the "definition" and feel of "firm" and "medium". This is one of the reasons why it is so important to find what the actual components are, the density, ild, etc. And every person is different, what you believe is firm and what I believe is firm is totally different...and of course there are no standards in the industry.

With your BMI of 34, you need to make sure the support of your base mattress has the durability you need, and then it is about the comfort layers. When Brentwood sent you a "medium" comfort layer, did they say what the density was? I am not positive what the coil unit was used on the original Cedar, it sounds like it is the Combizone unit for Leggett and Platt which is firm and would be a good recommendation of for a high BMI. Putting latex densities of 4.7 (75kg/m3) over a combizone is a firm bed. I am not sure you will be able to "break-in" this bed, because the materials used a very durable, high quality, but not the right fit. If you end up ordering a "soft" hybrid, you may end up on a coil unit not supportive for high bmi and have a different issue causing you pain. On another note, you may be able to get a 3" 19 or 24 ild Talalay topper and see if this helps your side sleeping. If not make sure you talk to some of our Mattress Expert members to see what they recommend for you.
