Best mattress that wont Sag 30 Oct 2020 09:26 #1

Hello All,

Just came across this forum and I'm wondering what would be the best mattress that will sag the least in the middle. I have gone through many difference mattresses over the years (cheap and expensive) however it seems like after 1-2 years they all sag in the middle and I start to wake up with a sore back. I have mostly had Memory foam ones and I'm now thinking of trying a pocket coil with a european topper. I have also tried a firm mattress and a Plush one they both sag but I preferred the plush as it was like sleeping on a cloud when new :D

Any suggestions on the type I should be going for? I'm likely looking to buy from Costco in Canada if that makes a difference.

Hi bryanviper.

Welcome to our Mattress Forum! :)

Sorry to hear about your mattress "sag-a" and that you are experiencing recurring mattress sagging in a short number of years after purchasing new mattresses!

There are a number of factors that can affect whether or not a mattress will sag, and unfortunately, it cannot be remedied with a topper.

Before switching to a new mattress, I'd suggest removing the mattress you currently have from your bed frame and placing it on the floor. If the sag disappears, you have a problem with the base, not the mattress. If not...then you will know for sure that the mattress is the culprit.

In that case, it's possible that you have a history of purchasing mattresses that may not be a good fit for your height, weight, and sleeping position. If you are open to sharing your sleep stats with us, it'll be easier for us to help provide a meaningful commentary on any mattress you may be considering in the future.

If you take a look at our Mattress Durability Guidelines, specifically as it pertains to memory foam and BMI , you can find out what we recommend in terms of quality and durability, which can also help steer you in the right direction with regards to future purchases as well.

Hope this helps!

In my professional experience, the best models to fight sagging include a individually wrapped pocketed coil system. This provides individual support where you need it.

Micro coils in conjunction with a pocketed coil system may also yield better results.

I would recommend avoiding pillowtops, as the materials used naturally will dip an amount overtime, much faster than memory foam or latex.

A sturdy reliable base is 100% essential, I have seen high quality brand new mattresses get ruined & begin sagging in the middle, within a week of being placed on an unsound base.

Thickness of the mattress will make a difference, this I have no doubt.

Latex is an extremely durable material, very similar to rubber, it is resilient & bounces back to original position immediately upon pressure relief. From research I have seen, they typically have the longest life spans.

Hope this helps!
