Mattress Underground rookie looking for best side sleeping weightless solution 19 Nov 2020 08:22 #1

My turn to enter the "find a new mattress" dark zone. I am a side sleeper looking for the old tempur-pedic feel. The new ones are NOT a solution I have found. Is there a mattress out there with a 4"+ thick 5lb memory foam comfort layer? Is this what will get me closer to true weightless suspension. I do not have back issues. Thank you for the help

Hi lynndeppe.

Welcome to our Mattress Forum. :)

And welcome down our rabbit hole! It sounds like you know what you like and what you want.

We do not make recommendations for specific mattresses (read more about why in this tutorial here , particularly point #4) or mattress brands unless they are thoroughly vetted Trusted Members of our site.

I'm unsure where you are located, but if you are in Canada...our Trusted Member, Memory Foam Comfort, offers a memory foam mattress with a 4" memory foam layer that has a 5 lb density.

Magic Sleeper has a 12" mattress with 4.5" of memory foam in the comfort layers, but you'd need to reach out to confirm the foam density.

I would suggest if you can, visiting or calling a local retailer or outlet as well (read this guide on how to choose a great mattress outlet before you do) and having an in-depth conversation with an expert about your needs; you'll want to be on the lookout for retailers and manufacturers that employ people who are more interested in educating you and fitting you to a mattress than they are in the profits they will make (they understand that profits are a side effect, not a "cause"). They can tell you "why" one mattress may be better than another for your needs and preferences.

I'm hoping this helps. Please keep up posted on what you may learn or find!
