DIY advice for Arizona Mattress purchase 26 Dec 2020 15:25 #1

Hi everyone,
I'm looking for some advice on making a DIY latex mattress. I'm 6'3" 180 lbs back sleeper and my wife is 5'11" 160 lbs side sleeper. We were initially considering the 9" prebuilt but thought about adding an additional layer for some more support.

Is the following a good combination? We were thinking of going with Arizona Mattress.

base- 6" dunlop latex core
layer 1- 2" medium blended talalay
layer 2- 2" medium (or soft?) blended talalay
top layer 3- 2" soft blended talalay

I wasn't entirely sure whether going with 1x3" soft and 1x3" medium was a better idea- it actually would be a bit cheaper due to some sales they have going on. Anybody out there tried any of these combinations or have a better suggestion?

Thanks!

Hey coherent,

Congrats on your new DIY mattress journey :) ! You can check out other DIY conversations using a TMU site search on topic "DIY" and check out unique and creative ways of others' project approach, as well as ask Qs of them. You may also enjoy a read of consumer @Paracelsus462's post "Thoughts from my 5 year mattress building journey" , he has many useful points too. Some questions for you: what mattress are you currently sleeping on, how old is it and what size is it? What properties do you like about it? What would you change? Also, have you slept on an all-latex mattress before?
