Would a 1" latex impregnated Coconut Coir Mattress Pad/Bed Rug alter the feel of a mattress? Would it soften the support, since it has some give to it.

Hey empusa,

Nice seeing you on the forum and thanks for your question :) .

Would a 1" latex impregnated Coconut Coir Mattress Pad/Bed Rug alter the feel of a mattress? Would it soften the support, since it has some give to it.

Latex infused Coconut Coir Mattress Pad Bed Rugs are generally designed to be used on a solid platform bed or floor for use with both futons and mattresses. These latex infused products are quite dense/ firm and when used as recommended, you shouldn't experience support "softening", as the pad bed rugs' weight and surface are evenly distributed across the solid platform's or floor's area. What type/ size foundation are you using and what type mattress? How old is it and is there a specific problem you're trying to solve with the use of the mattress pad bed rug?

Thanks,
Sensei

I have solid support. It's slatted, but slats are about 2" apart, about 10" wide, are T-beam composite, and the slats under the torso have center legs. The pad is 1" thick and if I push on it with my fingers it squishes down easily, but feels fairly firm when I distribute the load with the palm of my hand. I can't help but think it would alter the feel of springs just a bit.

Generally speaking, a latex impregnated Coconut Coir Mattress pad bed rug placed on a foundation such as you describe should not be felt in any noticeable way and with its added firmness could provide more stability and support for your mattress. You don't mention what mattress your are using (other than "springs") or the mattress's age and size, and I'd be interested in knowing these details too.

Sounds like you have the bed rug on site now; have you tried using it yet and if so, is there in fact a difference in support feel? Looking forward to hearing more on your CC mattress pad bed rug experiment and thanks for sharing ;) .

I'm using it below a new hybrid mattress, and I never tried the mattress without it. My slates are quite wide, about 10", so I wanted to improve the ventilation and support to the springs between slats. I have another fairly new hybrid mattress that is much to firm, but I don't think the rug will make any noticeable change. I think that excessive firmness likely comes from the layers above the coils.
