Is Memory Foam a Better Fit For Me? 19 Apr 2021 08:42 #1

Hello,

I am a 5'10 side sleeper that 165lbs and fairly broad shoulder

I made a post earlier about my decision to use a topper on my bed. I purchased the 3" Soft Sleeponlatex topper and this 3" 3.5lb density Memory Foam Topper here www.amazon.com/dp/B07YTWNBLW/ref=twister_B081HLGRJG?_encoding=UTF8&th=1 . I was hoping that I would prefer the latex topper more, as its better for the environment and more durable, and latex seems to be looked upon favorably on here, but I actually strongly preferred the memory foam topper. Did I just get the wrong latex topper or am I a better fit for memory foam?

Also, the density of my foam topper is 3.5lbs, which seems to be good. I don't sink into it excessively and its not super hot. Would a 4+lb density foam be more ideal for someone with my stats? If so, where would I find one? A lot of the toppers I see out there being pushed don't specify density.

Hi MrMatress.

Latex is a popular and often preferred choice by many, but that doesn't mean there's something wrong if you prefer memory foam. Preference plays a HUGE role in finding adequate comfort and support on a mattress and, when dealing with durable materials, there's no reason why you shouldn't enjoy memory foam. Many people tend to avoid it because it sleeps hot and find latex to have similar comfort properties without the heat. Alternatively, many enjoy the deeper motion isolation afforded by memory foam.

Because you're dealing with a topper which you can flip, 3.5 lbs is an adequate density for your BMI. If this were a one-sided comfort layer on a mattress, we'd be more prone to suggest 4 lbs. You can read more by checking out our Durability Guidelines here.

As for 4 lb toppers, I was able to find a few results with a quick Google search. I believe Nest Bedding has a memory foam topper, but you'd have to contact them about the density.

I hope this helps.
