DIY tweak needed - 19ILD talalay too firm 25 Sep 2021 19:46 #1

We **FINALLY** received our DIY build components and have slept on it for 2 weeks. DH is comfortable but I (5'7, 120lbs, side/back) am still very uncomfortable. Back support and alignment seems fine for both of us but I am barely sinking in at ALL.. We were trying to replicate a Savvyrest set up we loved but was way out of budget. The SR was 3" layers all talalay firm/med/soft. We went with 3" layers of blended talalay in 32, 28, and 19. encased in a Brentwood Home bamboo 9" cover. My back is OK but I have awful pressure points on my hip, shoulder, and even my knee (which is new). Since the talalay 19 is too firm it doesn't seem to make sense to throw another layer of soft talalay on top or to swap the medium middle for another soft. I'm not eligible for a layer swap anyway since we bought components and not a completed mattress, but even if I was eligible for a swap I'd be hesitant to work with them again due to the frustrating experience we had with our purchase.
I hate memory foam. What else can I do besides just get used to discomfort? I'm so disappointed! I researched for over a year and thought I was making a good purchase.

DIY tweak needed - 19ILD talalay too firm 27 Sep 2021 18:19 #2

Hi LN2009.

I am sorry to hear that your DIY setup isn't functioning as you'd hoped. Unfortunately, when it comes to mattress matching, it's more often than not an impossible and disappointing feat. Instead, it can be useful to approach a DIY with the understanding that the attempt to approximate the feel of another mattress may be hit or miss, but that you're ultimately building a mattress that will be perfect for you in terms of comfort, support, and any other personal preferences.

As for the too-firm feeling of your current mattress...there may be some hope yet. Sometimes the encasement can create a "firmer" sleeping experience on the comfort layer. Could you try removing the encasement to see if that softens your sleeping experience at all? I look forward to hearing if this improves the softness at all.
