DIY Hybrid questions 11 Oct 2021 17:38 #1

Hello,
I'm planning on going with the combi-zone pocket coil. Are there any negatives to this spring system vs the regular bolsa springs? Sleepez doesn't seem to offer the combi-zone, so I thought I would ask.
The comfort layer will be a 3" medium dunlop topper.
My other question is my foundation has slats 2.5" apart. would there be any advantage to using a 2" firm latex layer under the springs? I guess similar to the 360 Hybrid pillowtop at sleepez.

Hello!

We went through similar thoughts when deciding on the spring set for our hybrid. We settled on the combi-zone, but because one of us is a side sleeper, the firmer middle zone was disadvantageous (we ended up fixing that though -- see one of my previous posts). For the back sleeper, the firmer zone offers a little more lumbar support.

Which bolsa set are you thinking of? Based on the spec sheets, the 8" has springs that are of identical firmness (or softness I suppose) as the softer areas of the combi-zone. This would work well for a side sleeper. The 6" version (the bolsa, not the caliber) is much firmer throughout. I was told by two separate companies that for heavier sleepers, the 8" version would wear out quickly.

So, I suppose the choice would depend on your weights and sleeping positions.

A 2-in layer of latex underneath would be overkill. Just an inch of firm polyurethane foam would do. The SleepEZ design is flippable, so unless you are designing a flippable one, the 2 in aren't needed.
