What mattress after My Green Mattress? 13 Oct 2021 13:55 #1

My husband and I recently purchased the My Green Mattress Natural Escape, but we returned it. It seemed like a quality, long-lasting mattress and was definitely better than our 2 yr old Tuft & Needle, but it was a bit too firm for both of us- especially for side sleeping and. We even put an old tuft& needle topper on it which made it decent, but I thought since I'm paying all this money I want to get something that's really comfortable for both of us. A little bit about us: He's 5'8" 160 lbs mostly back sleeper and I'm 5'6" 110 lbs back and side sleeper. We ended up returning it- and the company was great. Quick to respond via email and a quick refund once we donated the mattress.

We're now back to the old Tuft & Needle and it's causing me back issues again. For some further background, I had a twin Tuft & Needle mattress purchased circa 2014 and that was actually supportive and comfortable. I don't know if their foam was better quality back then or what, because our newer 2-year-old mattress from T&N started causing issues right past the return date. Any suggestions on another latex or hybrid mattress that would be supportive like the Natual Escape, but a bit softer?

Hi julicu.

Welcome to our Mattress Forum. :)

I'm sorry to hear that the Natural Escape didn't work out, but glad that the refund process was seamless. I appreciate you sharing some of your sleep statistics with us. As you are both lighter weights and back/side sleepers, a slightly more plush comfort layer is a good instinct on your part. I agree that this will likely help alleviate your back pain, but also give you both the adequate amount of "sinking in" to feel both comfortable and supported.

I think a mattress you my find comparable in quality is the Natural Hybrid Latex from Nest Bedding or the Select Sleep Hybrid from Sleep EZ.

I don't know if their foam was better quality back then or what, because our newer 2-year-old mattress from T&N started causing issues right past the return date.

It's possible this could be the case. I'm not sure exactly what you're feeling (sag, etc.), but premature foam failure or just the breakdown of low quality foams is often a culprit in pain points on a mattress, especially when it is a newer mattress.

Is your T&N a plush, medium, or firm model?

What bed sheets are you sleeping on? 14 Oct 2021 13:08 #3

Hi NikkiTMU,

Thank you for those recommendations. The Tuft & Needle mattress that I originally purchased in 2014 only came in one model and the one I most recently purchased was the "original". I actually tend to think I like firmer options but I think it's actually that I want good support. Last night I slept on the Tuft & Needle topper on the floor and my back felt better in the morning than I do sleeping on the T&N mattress. I think when I sleep on the T&N mattress parts of me sink so that I'm out of alignment. The only problem with the floor is eventually it's a bit uncomfortable and sore.

Hi julicu.

It's great you have been able to do a little troubleshooting to figure out what may be the culprit in your pain points. It does sound like you need a supportive mattress that allows for some sinking in.

Despite who you buy from, definitely have a detailed conversation with them sharing what you've shared here so they can help guide you towards an appropriate fit from their inventory.

If you have any more questions (or updates!) we will be here. :)
