Adjustible split bed base/foundarion 13 Nov 2021 08:22 #1

I am looking at the Flo Bed split king V zone mattress or the Zen Haven split matress.
www.flobeds.com/product/natural-latex-mattress/
www.saatva.com/mattresses/zenhaven

Saatva makes the split lineal adjustible frame
www.saatva.com/bases/lineal-adjustable-base
Flo bed makes the dual kind adjustble frame:
www.flobeds.com/foundations/

Does any company's split matress go on any company's split frame?
Or do I need to stick with the same company?
I like the Satvaa lineal split base because it will sit inside our exisiting king bed frame if we removed the slats but am leaning more towards the Flo V Zone mattress.

Then there's the issue of remotes and dual remotes. I need my head raised, hubby doesn't.

I am a 70 yr old asthmatic with a lot of fragrance and environmental allergies (none latex).
I have reflux, sleep apnea and right shoulder pain. I am a restless sleeper moving from side to side and back to stomach. My weight has fluctuated between 162 and 186 the past 10 years. I currently weigh 172.

My husband is 63 yrs old with a shoulder injury. He sleeps on one side or on his back. He is begining to develop reflux and has occasional light snoring. His weight has fluctuated between 178 and 204 over the past 10 years. He currently weighs 182.

Any advice on adjustible bases, remotes and mattresses compatibility is appreciated.

I want to say that Dewey at Flobed has been most responsive to my emails. I have decided to post my questions here so that others can benefit from responses.
1. Going with Flobed and their Zoning, is there a recommendation for the best configuration for my husband and I? I suspect it's the V Zone mattress we are after?
I am now being worked up for a possible cervical pinched nerve in the right side in addition to my right shoulder which I can no longer sleep on. Have done so for 40+ years and now adjusting to not doing so. My head needs to be slightly elevated at the upper torso level to prevent awaking with "2AM reflux". So not sure how that translates into which firmness I need. I carry my weight in my abdomen, not hips. But I do suffer from hip pain because of slight thoracic area scoliosis.

2. Can someone fully explain flobeds split base. Is it split completely down the center? Is the matress also two complete twin XL's? Is it noisey for the partner when one of us adjusts the head slightly? How do sheets and blankets work? I've read about sheets split at the top only but I am not sure of that benefit. My husband is early out of bed and I stay in bed another 2-3 hours reading. I would like raise both the head and my knees to keep from sliding down. He reads at night before turning in and maybe if we had a split adjustible he would also like to have knees raised when I wouldn't because I may be sleeping.

3. Are the Flobed remotes easy to read in the dark? Is the font on the display large enough to read without reading glasses? We prefer to keep electronics in the bedroom to a minimum but with advancing technology, (and advancing age) seems this is one rule harder to keep.

4. Lastly a question for a queen guest bed for our visiting children. What setup is typical for that? They both like firmer mattresses. Many times if hubby or I are restless at night, the other will head to the guest room. Perhaps if we get our new bed "right" we won't be doing that. But should we be awake late or early or be sick and want to retreat to the guest room, is there a suggested mattress that would better suit that queen bed?

Hi SandiMacD.

Welcome to our Mattress Forum. :)

It is great that you've been having a conversation with Dewey. I know he'll be able to answer the questions you have, but I will also do my best to try and point you in the direction of answers and resources and hopefully other Flobeds patrons will chime in with their experiences!

Going with Flobed and their Zoning, is there a recommendation for the best configuration for my husband and I? I suspect it's the V Zone mattress we are after?

While we are able to evaluate an adequately durable mattress (which Saatva likely is not) it's hard for us to decide or designate a best fit for you as only you know what you feel on a mattress, and what you prefer and need in terms of comfort and support. That said, the vZone is incredibly adaptable and, if for some reason you're unable to configure the mattress to your particular needs, Flobeds will send you the Zone you need no charge for the first 100 days. No charge and nothing to send back. This really is a wonderful mattress.

Can someone fully explain flobeds split base.

It looks like their base is not split but I know Dewey would likely be able to suggest a compatible split base so that you and your husband can adjust your beds as needed.

Is the matress also two complete twin XL's?

Based on what I see in the image, this appears to be the case. I would confirm with Dewey, though, to be sure.

Unfortunately I can't speak to the volume of the base as it adjusts, or about the split bedding, as I have no personal experience with this.

3. Are the Flobed remotes easy to read in the dark? Is the font on the display large enough to read without reading glasses?

Great question! I hope someone with experience here will chime in. If not, you could ask Dewey to send you a picture of the remote.

4. Lastly a question for a queen guest bed for our visiting children. What setup is typical for that?

To take some words directly from Phoenix... I usually recommend something in the “medium/medium-firm” range for a guest bedroom, as that will tend to work best for a wide variety of visitors. Hotels generally use the same philosophy, going with firmer mattresses and then more comfortable top-of-bed products to achieve a more medium comfort. Of course, since it is your mattress, you may wish to choose a comfort that is agreeable to you, as chances are you may end up using it more than your guests for naps, when one of you isn’t feeling well, etc. Staying with a more traditional innerspring design versus memory foam or latex is also usually a "safer" choice.

Does any company's split matress go on any company's split frame?
Or do I need to stick with the same company?

Mixing and matching mattresses and bases is common. As long as the measurements are right and the weight of the mattress doesn't exceed the max suggested weight for the base, you should be in the clear.

I hope this helps in some regard!

I have been lurking and reading on TMU for about 2 years. We planned to replace our current beds after renovating our home. With soaring Reno costs, delayed permitting and reduced labor force, we kept being pushed back. The lastest from Nov to Apr 2022. Switched gears last month and moving instead. Closing on new home Nov 30th. So I had to "pull the plug" on mattress and bed decisions last week so we had new beds by Dec 15.
Flobed has been so responsive and helpful on every minor (and of course major) question that I had. The customer support outshines anything I have experienced in a very long time.
One unexpected major saving is I happened on their Black Friday special last weekend. Wow! Saving is far beyond my expectations.
Here is what I ordered.
King VZone firm/Xfirm for myself and husband to go on our exisiting platform bedframe.
Queen deluxe Firm for our guest room which one of us often uses if restless at night or during illness.
A queen Prodigy Comfort Elite Adjustible base to support the above mattress.
A custom made "pallet set up" for our visiting family. It consists of a "component" layer (Xfirm) with a 3 inch topper, both encased. We can store it under our twin bed and when an extra child, teen or adult shows up, use it as a sleeping floor pallet. It should arrive next week. If this ends up being too hard to sleep on I plan to order their dorm mattress which is firm/med and flippable depending on how much give the person likes. I can then put the dorm mattress on top of the Xfirm component layer and cover all with the topper.

I will update this post in a couple of months after all arrives and we have used it for awhile.

Thanks for this forum and the many helpful posts. Especially grateful for links to the industry and retailers who are serious about making quality mattresses & bases and who are dedicated to understanding their customers' needs.
