Undersized mattresses?! 12 Jan 2022 07:50 #1

I realize that +/- 1" is a reasonable tolerance, but how often are mattresses (particularly those shipped compressed in a box) grossly undersized?

After much reading of this forum and researching the trusted members, I decided on a Luma hybrid king sized. Because my room is actually a bit tight for a king, I purposefully bought a frame that was just a bit undersized. I was disappointed to find that the mattress does not even fit the frame! Customer service was very responsive and friendly - they advised that we try and stretch out the mattress. This gave maybe another inch or so, but the measurements were still outside of tolerances and more importantly, sinking into the corners of the frame. The width is 2-3" short depending on where its measured - along the top, middle or side. The corners/ ends of the mattress are basically concave so its frankly rather cheap and ugly looking. The website pics look like square or even plump/ convex corners. Customer service eventually offered a replacement on a warranty claim. I'm worried that the replacement will be the exact same problem...and I hate the thought of being wasteful.

What should my expectations be?

Hi hydrophilicity.

Welcome to our Mattress Forum. :)

Sorry to hear about the experience with your first Luma. As you mentioned .5 - 1" isn't an unreasonable or uncommon amount to face in terms of difference after compression, but 2 - 3" is unacceptable, as confirmed by the replacement on the warranty claim.

It's not particularly common for compressed beds to suffer *that* much compression, so odds are likely that your replacement will not face this issue.

Please do keep us posted.
