Latex Mattress depth- is 9" enough? 14 May 2018 12:16 #1

We live in Portland, Oregon and are shopping for a new mattress and adjustable bed (Split King). I have visited several of the local shops and the best fit so far is at Parkland, the Harmony mattress. I think it's the softest of the latex models they have. We did end up trying it with a "soft" 2" latex topper on top, and it's great. We looked at many others, but they all have so much quilting on the top which bunches up with the adjustable beds, while the Harmony is very simple in its construction. I really like the separate topper as it just gives the bed a better feel for shoulders, etc.

I've been doing some research on this site, and have seen some comments that 9" may not be enough for heavier people- my husband and I are between 185lbs and 215 lbs, and are in our early fifties. We sleep mostly on our sides, but sometimes roll onto our backs.

So, is the Parklane Harmony deep enough to provide proper support, or should we be looking at something a bit deeper?

Latex Mattress depth- is 9" enough? 15 May 2018 09:26 #2

Thank you for the question and the short answer is yes, 9" of latex is more than enough for your weight and comfort. The early latex mattresses from the 50's and 60's were only 5 1/2" and those were used for up to 50 years. You should have no issues with your configuration. Personally I use a 3" topper over my latex mattress to reduce the gathering of the quilted cover since the topper I use has only a stretch knit non-quilted cover.
