Stuck on firmness 06 Aug 2018 08:58 #1

I'm really interested in a latex mattress and found two local places to actually try them. However, I really am confused on firmness. We first went to Ikea and tried the different latex models there. Everything was 'Medium-Firm' or 'Firm' and I would say they all felt like a solid rock.

After that we headed down to Mattress Innovations and tried their all latex line. It was interesting in that even their firmest latex mattress was extremely soft - the exact opposite of Ikea. Other then Firm, Medium or Plush, they had no specifications on the latex itself.

We really liked their pocket coil and 'latex' mattress line, but I noticed an E marked on the side, which is clearly the Englander model (They don't actually make it). When I looked at the specification sheet, it said Pocketed Coil ENCASED in Latex with a poly-foam comfort layer. I was extremely surprised since while we were laying on it, he talked about how they don't use that 'cheap poly foam' like those other companies and yet sold a mattress with a 1.5" poly foam comfort layer.

We did however, love the latex mattresses except for the lack of edge support - so putting latex with a pocket coil sounds perfect. Based on the full latex mattresses at Mattress Innovations, we prefer a Medium - the plush seemed almost too soft, but based on Ikea we would need an extra extra plush.

I'm about 5'10", 160 lbs and tend to sleep on my side with a pelvic tilt. My wife is about 5 ft and 140 lbs and sleeps mainly in a fetal position. We have a firm opticool posterpedic from about 6 years ago and that was a major firmness mistake. I'm looking at the Ultimate Hybrid and am curious about firmness. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you for your interest in our products. The Ikea stuff is all dunlop latex which is firmer feeling than Talalay in general. It's also lower end dunlop so I'm not surprised they all felt firm. Our Quantum Edge Elite Combi Zone pocket coils have extra springs on the edge for firmer edge support. Overall the spring is pretty firm so because you are both side sleepers I can easily recommend the Soft Talalay to go over the springs based on your weights and sleeping positions. As a side sleeper of 170 lbs. that's what I would choose for myself knowing how each of the layers feel.

I just want to jump in and confirm uncafeaulait's experience with the Ikea mattresses. Their softest mattress with latex was still firm for me. Much to firm for my shoulders while sleeping on my side. We ended up ordering an all blended Talalay mattress from APMC after talking to Ken and are very much looking forward getting it.

I placed an order yesterday for the mattress, but in my hunt for a new pillow I started looking at the Rejuvenite Restora as my old Z Zoned Latex pillow is now a pancake. I can't seem to find any information on the Rejuvenite brand besides what you have on your website. They don't seem to have a website any more.

It's explained in the opening paragraph on the main page - Rejuvenite Latex Pillows aka Classic Latex Pillows
RejuveNite® brand by Latex International has been making state of the art sleep products from the highest quality latex foam rubber for now over thirty years. Although they are no longer called Rejuvenite due to the name change from Latex International to Talalay Global, the Rejuvenite pillow is now called High Profile Classic or Low Profile Classic but rest assured it's the same latex from the same molds

I'm not positive about the manufacturer of Ikea USA latex products but Ikea Europe buys over half a million dunlop latex mattresses every year from Latexco in Belgium and I know those all run firm. I guess the European's sleep different from us.
