DIY Hybrid - Expert Advice Needed 31 Oct 2019 07:50 #1

Hello, I would like to build a hybrid latex / coil mattress (or buy if I find the right model) and could use the advice of an expert.

Previously I slept on the Dreamfoam Ultimate Dreams 12-in-1 foam mattress on top of an IKEA Lonset slat system placed on the floor. I did not like it despite the 12-in-1 customization options. It led to occasional lower back problems (likely from putting slat system on floor).

I am currently on a Sertapedic Lyra which I cannot find details about online. It has a coil system with maybe two 1-2" support layers on top? I like this mattress, but it came with my house when I moved and is over ten years old so I want to replace.

I would like my new mattress to be supportive and not transfer motion from one side to the other. I tried beds at SavvyRest and liked the Firm Dunlop, Medium Dunlop, Soft Talalay and Firm Dunlop, Medium Talalay, Medium Talalay combos. At Urban Mattresses, I liked their hybrid options and really liked the Vispring options, but they were expensive and seem to be too complex for a DIY option.

Any advice for a 6', 155 lb stomach and side sleeper?

Thank you for your interest in our products. The all latex option like the Savvy Rest is going to provide the best motion isolation vs a hybrid. We can duplicate at a much lower cost. I would recommend a Firm dunlop then medium Talalay then soft Talalay since you are mainly a side sleeper. Dunlop sleeps firmer than the equivalent Talalay so it's good for the bottom support layer. Being a side sleeper myself I use all Talalay for my personal bed. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Dunlop, Talalay, Talalay - got it! I noticed motion when my partner sat down on the bed at the store and I was on it. Is there a way to reduce that?

If it's on a solid base you won't get that. Even a loose bedframe can cause motion transfer.
