Pressure relief and support with Original Luma mattress 30 Sep 2021 15:15 #1

What pressure relief and support can I expect from the Original Luma mattress, which has a two-inch latex layer over 8 inches of coils, with no transition layer?

As an average weight stomach/side sleeper with sciatica and shoulder/neck issues, I want to avoid a mattress that's too hard. But I'm also concerned that I might sink through a softer two-inch top layer and hit the coils.

I see the Natural Latex Hybrid mattress has an extra layer, but I'd like to stay with the less expensive model if possible.

Pressure relief and support with Original Luma mattress 01 Oct 2021 02:34 #2

Hello slobjones,

Thanks for reaching out to Luma Sleep through The Mattress Underground. Our design of the Original Luma Mattress is based on providing the adaptive support of pocket coils and the comfort/pressure relief of latex. This model is targeted to compete with the Bed-in-a-Box lines of mattresses that have a 6"+ block of unresponsive base foam and 3"+ of memory/gel/polyfoam by providing a high-performance mattress using proven mattress material components. The use of the QE Bolsa coil system from Leggett and Platt provides a medium gauge pocket coil system that is highly responsive to a person's size and body shape. The 2" layer of natural latex comes in options of Plush, Medium and Firm so our customers can select a model that best fits their comfort needs. There is no need for a transition layer in this design; the transition between pocket coils and latex is inherent as both components are adaptive.
A key consideration for purchasing this model has to do with one's height/weight/BMI. Regardless of sleeping position and comfort preference, we have discovered that the Original Luma Mattress is best suited for individuals within a BMI range less than 28. The QE Bolsa coil system may not provide adequate spinal alignment above this level.
If your budget is less than $1000 and your BMI is 28+, you should consider other options.
Thanks for considering Luma Sleep!
