Can you help compare the wall hugger features with different adjustable beds?

Hello all,

I'm curious about any differences in the amount of travel between the wall hugger features of different manufacturers or models of adjustable beds. The wall hugger feature is meant to keep you closer to your bedside table when you raise the bed but most of them seem to end up moving the occupant of the bed forward to some degree so you still need to reach back a bit to reach your bedside table although not as far as you would if there wasn't a wall hugger feature.

For those of you that are willing to take the time participate and help with this and own an adjustable bed with a wall hugger feature I would interested in two measurements to find out if they are all the same or similar of if there are wall hugger features that do a better job of keeping you even with your bedside table.

1. A measurement of how many inches the the top of the bed is away from the wall at its closest point when it's in the fully raised position.

2. For the second measurement if you put a pencil or other thin object in the middle of one side edge pointing out and then line it up with something on the floor that won't move when you raise the bed you will be able to measure the amount of backwards travel when the bed is fully raised.

To start things off ... on my Reverie Deluxe (which has been replaced with the Reverie 5d) the top of my bed is a little more than 7" away from the wall when it's fully raised and the total amount of backward travel is a little over 6 1/2".

We have the L&P D-222 series split king adjustable bases.

Fully raised the closest point of the base is 2" from the wall and backward travel is 9".

Hi GW208,

Thanks ... and it seems that your L&P D-222 is a little better "hugger" than my Reverie Deluxe :)

It's my understanding that L&P invented the wall hugger feature.

I wonder if the Reverie 8Q is a better wall hugger in comparison to the 5D since it's a newly introduced model? I cannot find any Leggett and Platt dealers in our area that actually stock a variety of there models. They all say they can order them however.

we got our l and p from the original mattress factory, they had it on the floor so we could try it. we had the serta from Macy's and returned it as it was way to far from the wall, love the L and P it is fantastic in every way.

Hi sharon2975,

I was hoping that this topic would include the specific measurements for the amount of travel for the different wall hugger features. Since you've posted here could you measure yours and add it to your post (and include the L&P model you have)?

Thanks :)

The Reverie 8Q at our store measures moves 11" from wall and and the backwards travel for the second measurement is 1 and a half inches. The backwards travel will actually get you closer to your nightstand. Of course the size of your nightstand and where it is positioned in your bedroom would be another variable. I will get you measurements for our Glideaway Grand Model as well later this week. Hope this helps, a good topic that I am sure lots of people are interested in the results.

Hi sleepoutlet,

Thanks for taking the time to share your measurements for the Reverie 8Q.

Are you sure that the 1 1/2" is correct since it seems unusually low and an inch and a half of travel wouldn't really make much difference compared to a non wall hugger adjustable that doesn't have any backwards motion at all.

My old Reverie Deluxe for example (which is the equivalent to the 5D) has backwards motion of a little more than 6.5" and even this results in a position that is somewhat forward relative to a night stand when you raise the back all the way.
