OMC serenity Latex vs Sleep number p5 for health issues

Sorry, I can't start a new topic in the general forum, there isn't any options for it.

I have middle back pain and thoracic outlet syndrome, which causes pains and numbness in my hands and arms. My firm matress from original matress company which is about 6 yrs old is shot, it's a box spring.

I am under 30, 115 lb female, and I try to stay on my back, but I do role around a lot because of discomfort which probably adds to my back pain more than anything.

I am considering the original matress latex, though I wasn overwhelmed by it, but it is firmer like what I am used to in a box spring, and didn't indent like memory foam which I don't like. I figure it probably would work out fine , it's expensive at 2k, and I haven't been happy with the quality of their box springs lately,..maybe 5-6 yrs is normal but my parents went in less than a year. The quality seems high in this bed though.

The competition is a 3k p5 sleep number, I'm not thrilled about price wise and I think that is expensive for what it is. It felt nice in the store. But I'm concerned also about issues with technology, and I'm a simple person for my age. I just want a bed and no buttons, but it's tempting. My dad thinks that it might be worth it. I just don't want a lemon bed!

Sviv,

Sorry to hear about your problems.

We recommend working with your doctor(s) and getting their input as to what would be the best solution for you in their opinion. A lot of times their answer is simply "whatever you find comfortable".

Couple of things to keep in mind. The Original Mattress Factory Latex is a blended latex mattress. They use a 60/40 synthetic to natural mix. In our opinion, and I think most here would agree, this isn't a true latex mattress.

As for the Sleep Number... If you have days when you need more or less support, depending on how you feel, this might be a solution for you as the bed allows for the adjustment of firmness. If you're considering an airbed for adjustability I recommend getting one with just a few foam layers between you and the air chamber. The big "puffed up" (i8, i10) models, when adjusted, make it difficult to feel any changes in firmness.

As for the Sleep Number pricing, most people fell it's out of line. We offer a line of airbeds manufactured for us by Innomax in Colorado. In our opinion, their construction is superior to Sleep Number at a friendlier price point. We've had success with these and they are available from several different sources, not just us.

Good luck and I hope you find a mattress that brings you comfort!

Thanks! Yes the docs generally say to me it's a personal choice.

The synthetic portion you are referring to is the PU core that is used?

I do agree on the pricing, the p5 was the lower more expensive model, and I'm not comfortable even if I can afford it to pay for it. What source for the air bed is closest to OHio? I'm also looking into maybe a sleepez custom.

No, the PU core is polyurethane.

The Latex layers are a blend. Says right on their site, "Approximately 3” of Talatech® Talalay Latex Dual Comfort foam per side".

A quick Google search and you'll find, " Talatech Latex is a blend of 30% natural rubber and 70% synthetic rubber".

I don't have any information about Ohio availability. We sell nationwide and can't keep up with what's available in our own backyard.
