I am looking for my best option of a mattress. We checked out sleep number, i bottomed out when i first got into it, but the adjustable base at zero gravity felt pretty good, but at 9k for the i8 with an adjustable platform no thank you. Im 6’0 300lbs and my wife and I bought a kingsdown Gabriella 4 years ago and we are getting hurt everynight. I found saatvamattress.com has a spring, memory foam, and latex option. We had a temperpedic and it worked out for about 7 years than it gave out. Wives a side sleeper, im back and side and use an apnea machine. I prefer something plush and not over firm but also sleeps cool. Any suggestions would be so well recieved. I dont know where to go.

Yes, the Sleep Number store will try to empty your bank account. Their advertising budget is over $100 Million a year and they need to get that plus a lot more back from their customers.

In my opinion using an air adjustable mattress with an adjustable base is overkill. Another thing is that the adjustable bed will do more to make you comfortable than any mattress at any cost.

Because of your weight the best choice for you would be latex. Anything else, Air, Memory Foam, Cool Gel, etc and you will not have a mattress that will ever make it to the 10-year mark. Latex is the longest lasting material for a mattress available. It’s typically good for 25 ~ 30 years. It may not last that long for you because of your weight but it will last much longer than the Sleep Number and cost you significantly less.

Please note that I’m referring to 100% latex. Combining it with foam of any other kind will result in the other foam failing earlier and the mattress being done for at that time. Like the old “weakest link” statement we’re all familiar with.

Not sure if you know this but Leggett & Platt furnishes the adjustable bases to Sleep Number. Their Flexfit 3 is directly comparable to the S-Cape 2.0. We offer that model for less than half the price of the Sleep Number adjustable base. So, we would certainly like to help you with the adjustable base.

As for latex mattresses, there are reputable vendors here on Mattress Underground. We have a few latex mattresses as well.

Hope this helps in your search,

Tim

Latex hybrids might be fine.

I just feel like if you’re going to buy latex, it might as well be 100% latex, so you get all the benefits of latex comfort and latex support.

But, that’s just my opinion, and others may differ.

I am interested in the base you have. Id like one the moves feet and head independtly for my wife and I we are very different. Please send me info on how I can purchaes it, im in CT. Also how can I figure out latex if ive never tried it? Is there somewhere i can check one out? I am very interested. What would be my options to provide both cool sleeping, support but still a plush in the comfort area? Should. I look for 2 twinxl’s to go with the seperate base?

Sorry, I didn't see the first part of your question.

Our adjustable beds are sold over the phone. We don't list any pricing on our site because Leggett & Platt has an IMAP Policy. That's "Internet Minimum Advertised Price". And since we can sell them for a lower price, the consumer has to call to get that price. Then, because we can't post the lower price on our site, we can't make the lower price available for online purchase. So once again...by phone.

Plus, consumers typically have a number of questions about the models and we can help them get exactly what they may need or want. And, talking by phone is MUCH more efficient than any other type of communication. Thousand of words exchanged and all questions answered in a few minutes... you can't do that by email as it would take hours.

I'm more of an Adjustable Bed Expert than a mattress expert. Mattresses are hard to try and keep up with. There seems to be another company appearing on the horizon every month that has the world's best mattress. And another two companies with a new bed-in-a-box design.

I'd make sure that whatever mattress you're considering to be sure the manufacturer is listing all the components and construction details. Then use the Search Function on this forum for more information. By using the search, it's entirely possible someone here has already commented on the mattress(es) you're considering.

Of the mattresses you listed I've had quite a bit of negative feedback on only one of them and that's the Purple Mattress. From what exposure I've had they seem to have a high return rate.

Here's another caveat for you or anyone else. With all these bed-in-a-box companies suddenly being created I guarantee you they won't all survive. The market will become saturated, growth will slow and market share will shrink. The companies who are either poorly managed or poorly structured will be gone. And when they go away, so does your Warranty.

So which of these companies will survive? Your guess is as good as mine.

Thanks for the reply, ill call the store for the adjustable frame. I went to matress firm(old sleepys) where i bought my 2400 gabriella kingsdown to see if they had any latex matress to try to just get a feel, but they didnt have much. But the lady felt with me buying the top of line they offer i should try to get the warranty so ill give it a shot but the problem is my back is killing me every morning for about 3-4 weeks now, since the bed has really developed a huge “hill” in the middle. We keep spinning it but still not working out well.

Do NOT go with Loom & Leaf if you have a high BMI! Mine failed in 2 1/2 years. I'm 5'7" and 275. The top layer failed. The lower layer is 5# memory foam but the first top layer is the weak link. Bed has never been quite comfortable, but now it's just awful. I wake up in pain every day, and here I am. :(

Definitely trying latex now.

@notheidi - Sorry to hear that the Loom & Leaf has failed on you. While it may or may not be considered a warranty issue I'd suggest contacting Saatva to discuss it. Since you're now interested in a latex mattress which would likely be a better and more durable choice, they do offer the Zenhaven latex mattress and might consider offering it to you at an upcharge. Just a thought and hope you find a better mattress soon!
