Hey, I've followed the reviews and discussions on this site for a few years now and even used them as a reference for my last mattress purchase.
Since then however I've developed Addison's disease, dysautonomia, and severe asthma. Our last mattress was ruined during the move and even after going through reviews we still had to air it out for months before I could even be in the same room with it.
At this point I've unfortunately become even more sensitive and even benign, but overly-pungent, odors can trigger a runaway-cascade of inflammation.
My wife and I are browsing around, but all of the floor-models have had ample time to off-gas and don't really represent products even a few-years down the line and, while I've been able to convince a few different stores to consider storing our mattress open-air on display or in their warehouse before it ships to us, I'm still concerned about finding the right materials.

I know Latex is supposedly better-tolerated and that higher-quality and newer foams have come a long way towards being less noxious than even more traditional-cotton, but finding any kind of real information is next to impossible because of how few people react to VOC's in the first place.
We would love to have an air-adjustable base and have been looking at sleep-number as they've a reputation for rapid and mild off-gassing, but I was really hoping to gather some advice from people who spend far more time working with the industry.

Thank you so much for your time!

If you want to be on the safe side, stick with natural latex.

Our airbeds use all US Foams so I feel fairly confident with them.

But, I don’t work at the factory so I can never be 100% sure. 99%, but I always hold back a small amount of reservation.

One statement you made that really hits the nail on the head is that companies don’t discuss VOC’s since it’s an issue for so few people.

Wish I could tell you more and I wish you the best in your search.

In 15 years you’re the first person I’ve ever had to raise the topic.
