Firmness level (finding the perfect mattress)

Hi Tom,
though I agree with you that 5K is a bit much for a bed, keep in mind that you will spend an enormous amount more sleeping on your mattress than driving in your Honda. Therefore your mattress will have a more significant effect on your overall health than your car seat - assuming no car accidents of course :)

Of course you are right, I was just joking with mattrebuild.
I had the opportunity to see his rebuild last night. 1. I'm not that handy 2. I don't have the time for it.
I would pay anything for the perfect mattress and a good night sleep.

Hi, Wanted to give feedback on the new Tempur Pedic Pro Adapt Firm mattress I purchased if you have not purchased a mattress yet.

I purchased a Tempur Pedic Firm mattress 20 years ago and it was great. My back problems disappeared in less then a month so naturally when the time came to buy a new mattress I stayed with Tempur Pedic.

This new Temper Pedic Pro Adapt Firm mattress is like sleeping on a board. I figured some break in time was needed but after two months the wife went to sleep in the guest room. I stayed with it for another two months to no avail and I was beginning to have pain in my shoulders as the mattress has practically no give at all even with me being 190 lbs. I am back to sleeping on the old mattress until I can figure out what to do with the piece of granite that I moved to the basement.

The salesperson I purchased the mattress from did not tell me about the ninety night satisfaction guarantee or I would have exchanged it for the medium firmness mattress.

Reason I went the route I did was we have absolutely crappy selection where we are (regardless of budget) so I had really no choice but to build what I wanted or spend a bloody fortune buying and (hopefully) returning mattresses that didn't work out. Best part was I still have money left over for future maintenance. Hopefully others will have some good suggestions for you on options for complete beds that might work for your situation.

Wow, sorry to hear about your experience. For myself I was looking at naturepedic not tempur-pedic.
The good thing that I discovered browsing around here and others can chime in, you can buy a topper that is softer to add on top.
If the mattress is too soft, you can not add firmness to the top, unless you open up your mattress and re do it.

I may have missed it, but what was the total build cost? I may have to revisit your build again to see but where did you purchase your layers at

love the microcoils. i have the eos classic, not the pillow top. only difference is pillow top has 2 sets of the 3” comfort layer. i fount the 2nd set to be unnecessary. i just wanted a straight up “medium” firmness and that was easily achievable with the classic so the pillow top would have been a waste of money for my needs. and i didn’t want a 15” thick mattress. if you need a reeeaaaaalllly plush mattress, try out the pillow top, otherwise consider the classic. i have plush coils and medium microcoils and it’s a perfect medium for me. plush but not overly plush while still feeling supper supportive. that would proble be good for your wife. your side could have the firm coils and the medium microcoils or firm latex.

definitely recommend going to a store where they can swap out different layers for you to try before you commit. even after you commit you can still swap out the comfort layers (not the base coils) till you get the feel you like. at that price, even if you have to fly somewhere to try it, it’d still be worth the $ to get it right.

Interesting, I was told there's two firmness levels of their coils, either firm or soft. You would think this info would be easily available on their website.

From what I'm understanding are you saying two layers of coils and one layer of latex?

I haven't figured out how to edit a message here yet or can I? I just looked at naturepedic's website on swapping layers And There is 5 different microcoils to chose from. They told me two like I mentioned above. This is concerning for how much their products are and the info they provide is horrible
